1. Scope and controller
This Privacy Policy describes the processing of personal data by the CN1 Discover Windows application and in connection with licensing, purchases and subscription management.
The controller is Neumann IT Solutions, Christian Neumann, Burghügelweg 1, 9604 Lütisburg, Switzerland, support@cn1.ch. The general Neumann IT Solutions Privacy Policy also applies to the website.
2. Local network diagnostics
CN1 Discover generally processes device, network and measurement data locally on the Windows device. This may include IP and MAC addresses, hostnames, device manufacturers, discovered services, reachable devices, network segments, topology mappings, response times, jitter, packet loss, reported link rates, and active path estimates.
For detection and diagnosis, the application uses, among other things, ICMP, local neighbor tables, DNS, SSDP/UPnP, mDNS/DNS-SD, Windows WLAN information and anonymously accessible standard information of supported infrastructure. Router passwords are not required or stored.
3. Local storage and exports
Known devices, measurement histories, topologies, projects, application status and licence status are stored in the local Windows user profile. This data is not automatically transmitted to Neumann IT Solutions.
Project files with the .cn1project extension may contain topologies, device names, IP/MAC addresses and measured values. They are intended for deliberate sharing and must be protected like confidential customer data. Before a detection feedback export is saved, a preview is shown; the export excludes IP/MAC addresses, hostnames, Wi-Fi names and persistent device identifiers.
4. External technical connections
For internet path diagnosis, 8.8.8.8 can be contacted. DNS queries are sent to the DNS services set on the system. Public route hop addresses can be submitted to the Team Cymru Whois service for ASN mapping; local private addresses are not transmitted for this. Locally accessible devices can respond to standard queries and device descriptions.
5. Installation via Microsoft Store
CN1 Discover is provided and updated via the Microsoft Store. In particular, Microsoft may process account, device, store, download and technical diagnostic data on its own responsibility. The settings and privacy policies of the Microsoft account, Microsoft Store and Windows apply. Further information is contained in the Microsoft privacy policy.
6. Licensing and Activation
Pro and Team are activations within the previously installed free app. For activation and license verification, the product ID, activation code, program version, a randomly generated installation ID and a signed proof of license are processed. During the technical connection, the IP address, time and status of the request may also be recorded in security and server logs.
No hardware fingerprint is created. Topology, device, project and diagnostic data are not transferred to the license service. The processing serves to provide the ordered edition, check the license status and prevent improper use.
7. Purchase, payment and customer portal
For paid editions, Neumann IT Solutions uses Stripe Checkout and the Stripe customer portal. Stripe processes the data required for purchasing, payment, billing, fraud prevention and subscription management. This may include the customer's name, email address, billing address, payment method, transaction information, purchased edition, and customer and subscription identifiers.
Neumann IT Solutions receives the information required for contract administration, licence provision, support and accounting, but does not receive full card details. Stripe processes data under its own responsibility and may transfer data across borders. The Stripe Privacy Policy applies.
8. Purposes, recipients and processing locations
Personal data is processed for contract fulfillment, license provision, subscription management, customer support, misuse and fraud prevention, troubleshooting and to fulfill legal obligations. CN1 Discover does not contain advertising, usage or crash telemetry.
The license service is operated on infrastructure of the IONOS group in France. The website and email are operated by METANET AG in Switzerland. Microsoft and Stripe may process data within their global infrastructure and use the safeguards required by applicable law to do so.
9. Storage and Security
Local network and project data remains stored until deleted by the user in the app or the associated local data is removed. Licensing, contract, support and billing data will be stored for the duration of the contract and subsequently for as long as is necessary for legal proof and retention obligations or to defend against claims. Stripe and Microsoft determine the storage of the data they process under their own responsibility in accordance with their respective data protection regulations.
Neumann IT Solutions takes appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect the personal data it processes from loss, misuse and unauthorized access.
10. Rights and contact
Data subjects may request access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, objection and data portability to the extent provided by law. Statutory retention obligations and third-party rights remain reserved. Requests should be sent to support@cn1.ch. Data subjects may also contact the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC).
11. Changes
This data protection information can be adjusted if the application, the services used or the legal situation change. The current version published on this page applies.
